Three shots to confirm your zero hasn't drifted. Run this at the start of every range session.
Five separate aim points, one shot each. Tests your ability to re-establish NPA and zero on a new point of aim each time — not just refine one group.
Diagnostic Drills
Where does your very first shot land compared to your zero? Most precision rifles shoot slightly differently cold. Know your offset.
The definitive flinch detector. A partner randomly loads snap caps — you cannot know which press will fire. Any movement on a snap cap is a flinch.
Verify your body is truly aligned with the target — not forcing the rifle on aim with muscle. A wrong NPA means every shot has tension in it.
A random wind scenario is generated — you call the hold, then the solver reveals the correct answer. Builds the mental math loop you need at distance.
Group Standards
Confirm your carbine's zero hasn't drifted. The one drill where maximum support is correct — you're isolating the rifle's zero from your own wobble.
The combat-effective carbine standard: 5 shots inside ~4 inches (4 MOA) at 100 yards from a real field position. Bench rest defeats the purpose.
Apply your confirmed 5.56 holdovers past the far zero. Here the skill being tested is the hold, so a steady supported position is fine — state which you used.
Diagnostic Drills
Up close the carbine's sight sits ~2.5" above the bore, so a dead-on hold strikes low. This drill makes the hold-high correction reflexive.
Two rounds to the body, one to the head — trained as a problem-solving sequence. The head shot is small and demands the close-range high hold.
A carbine you can't keep running is a club. Groove a smooth speed reload that seats first-try, every time — trained dry.
