Known-Distance Holdover
intermediateProne or braced/barricade (state which) — support OK; the skill is the holdApply your confirmed 5.56 holdovers past the far zero. Here the skill being tested is the hold, so a steady supported position is fine — state which you used.
Fire 5 rounds applying your holdover to center the group. Read the wind — the light bullet drifts.
Prone with bipod/bag, or braced on a barricade — a steady position is appropriate because this drill tests your DOPE, not your position. Target at 300 yards. Use your confirmed holdover from your DOPE. ⚠️ Shoot this PAST your far zero, not at it: on the common 50/200 zero the bullet crosses back through your line of sight at 200 yards, so a 200-yard target needs no holdover at all and teaches you nothing. If your range stops at 200, run this with a 36/300-style zero, or treat 200 as a zero confirmation instead.
Group centered on target using the correct hold = pass. Centered low/high = re-confirm your holdover. Record the group, the distance and the hold used — a holdover is only worth recording against the distance it was taken at.
