Your range data never leaves your device

Everything you log — sessions, groups, DOPE, gear, your progress through the curriculum — is written to your browser's own storage (IndexedDB) on the device you used. It is not uploaded, not backed up to a server, and not visible to us. There is no account to create because there is nothing on our side to attach one to.

The practical consequence is worth understanding, because it cuts both ways: nobody can read your data, and nobody can recover it for you. Clearing your browser's site data deletes it permanently, and it does not follow you to another device or another browser. Use the export in Settings if you want a copy you control.

What we do collect

We measure traffic, and we would rather say exactly how than hide behind a phrase like "we collect certain information". Two things run on this site:

Vercel Web Analytics records aggregate page views and referrers. It sets no cookies and does not build a profile across sites.

Our own visit counterrecords, for each page view: the page path, the referring URL if there is one, any UTM campaign tags in the link you arrived on, and your browser's user-agent string. It also stores a session identifier that is a one-way hash of your IP address and user-agent, truncated — your IP address itself is never written down, and the hash cannot be reversed back into it. It exists so two page views in the same visit are not counted as two visitors. No cookies are set.

Neither system can see anything you log in the app, because that data never reaches a server in the first place.

What we never do

No advertising networks, no third-party trackers beyond the analytics named above, no selling or sharing of data, and no email list you did not deliberately join. The personal-data pages — your log, gear, DOPE and settings — are excluded from search engines in robots.txt, though that is a formality: they would render empty to anyone but you regardless, since the data lives on your device.

Affiliate disclosure

As of now, this site carries no affiliate links and earns no commission from anything. That may change — the instruction here is free and keeping it free means it has to pay for itself somehow, and referral commissions on gear are the most likely route.

If that happens, the rule is this: any link that could earn a commission will be marked as such at the link itself, not only in this paragraph. Recommendations will be based on what we actually think is the right answer, and a product will never be named because it pays better. If those two things ever conflict, the recommendation wins — a shooting site that recommends the wrong optic for a commission is worth nothing to anyone, including us.

Terms of use

This site provides shooting instruction for educational purposes. Firearms are dangerous and the consequences of misusing one are permanent. You are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of everyone around you, and nothing here replaces qualified in-person instruction, your firearm's manual, or your own judgement on the line.

⛔ Nothing on this site is legal advice. Firearm law varies enormously by jurisdiction and changes often — where a lesson touches transport, storage or the decision to use force, it deliberately describes principles rather than rules, and you must check the actual law that applies to you.

⛔ The handloading material teaches method, never load data. It publishes no charge weights and never will. Load data comes from a current manual published by the powder or bullet maker, because that is the only source that has been pressure-tested in a laboratory. Handload at your own risk and start where the book tells you to start.

The content is provided as-is, without warranty. We try hard to be accurate and we correct mistakes when we find them, but you use this material at your own risk.

Changes and contact

If what we collect changes, this page changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, which is rather the point. Questions about anything above can go through the repository this site is built from.
