Reloading cost calculator

What each round really costs, from the prices you paid.

Enter what you paid for each component and the charge you already load. It works out the cost of one round, of 100 and of 1,000, shows which component costs the most, and compares the result with a box of factory ammunition. Nothing is filled in for you and nothing leaves your device; your entries are remembered here for next time.

Bullets

Your charge

The charge you load, from your own published manual. This page only multiplies it; it never suggests one.

Primers
Brass (optional)

Leave empty if your cases are already paid for. New brass is spread over every time you load it.

Cost per round

  • Enter what you paid for your bullets and how many came in the box.
  • Enter what you paid for your powder and the container's weight in pounds.
  • Enter the charge you load, in grains, from your own manual.
  • Enter what you paid for your primers and how many came in the box.

Reading the result

Powder by weight. A pound is 7,000 grains, so the powder in one round is the container price divided by its weight in grains, times your charge.

The floor. Powder and primer cost roughly the same whatever you seat on top, so the bullet decides most of the difference between two loads, and a premium bullet adds less to the round than its box price suggests.

Brass. Cases you already own cost nothing per round. New brass is spread over every time you load it, so the more loadings a case survives, the less it adds.

What it leaves out.Your time, and the rounds spent on ladder tests and zeroing. Factory ammunition’s case is often consistency and time, not price. To record a session, print the reloading log; to see which of your loads actually shoots, run the ladder test tool.
