Printable ladder test worksheet

Print this sheet, fill it in at the bench, and type it into the ladder test tool later. The columns are in the same order as the tool’s group form, so each row types in one-to-one. Set the number of rungs and groups below; it prints on Letter or A4, in black and white. For the loading bench, there is a matching printable reloading log.

Write each measurement as your target or calipers give it, for example 1 7/16. Called flyer: tick the box and circle the cause (me, wind, or ? if unsure). Compromised target: tick the box. Bench: tick each that was normal for the whole group, F function (fed, fired, locked back), E extraction and ejection, B brass, P primers. Anything not normal: stop shooting that rung and describe it in Notes.

MOA from inches: C-C ÷ (1.047 × yards ÷ 100). From millimeters: C-C ÷ 25.4 for inches first. Keep one unit for the whole session.

How to measure

Sample three-shot group, labeledThree bullet holes up and to the right of the aiming point. A line joins the two holes farthest apart: that distance is the group size, center to center. Dimension lines mark the group's height and width. A dot marks the group's center, the mean point of impact, with arrows showing its offset right of and above the aiming point.Aim pointWidthHeightMPI y(+ up)MPI x (+ right)Group size (C-C)MPI
Group size joins the two holes farthest apart, center to center. Height and width are the box around the hole centers. MPI is the group's center; its offsets are measured from where you aimed.
Group size (C-C, extreme spread)
The distance between the centers of the two shots farthest apart.
Find the two holes farthest apart. Measure from the outside edge of one to the outside edge of the other, then subtract one bullet diameter (about 0.224″ for a .22-caliber bullet, 0.308″ for a .30). Measuring outside edge to outside edge and subtracting one diameter gives the distance between the hole centers, which is the number the rest of the world reports.
Group height (vertical spread)
Top hole to bottom hole, center to center. Optional.
Measure from the top edge of the highest hole to the bottom edge of the lowest hole, straight up and down, then subtract one bullet diameter (about 0.224″ for a .22-caliber bullet, 0.308″ for a .30). Measuring outside edge to outside edge and subtracting one diameter gives the distance between the hole centers, which is the number the rest of the world reports.
Group width (horizontal spread)
Leftmost hole to rightmost hole, center to center. Optional.
Measure from the left edge of the leftmost hole to the right edge of the rightmost hole, straight across, then subtract one bullet diameter (about 0.224″ for a .22-caliber bullet, 0.308″ for a .30). Measuring outside edge to outside edge and subtracting one diameter gives the distance between the hole centers, which is the number the rest of the world reports.
Center offset, left–right (MPI x)
How far the group's center sits right (+) or left (−) of where you aimed. Optional.
This is hard to do well by hand, which is why it is optional. Measure each hole's center left or right of the aiming point (right +, left −), add them up and divide by the number of shots.
Right of the aiming point is positive, left is negative. Enter what your target shows.
Center offset, up–down (MPI y)
How far the group's center sits above (+) or below (−) where you aimed. Optional.
Hard to do well by hand, and optional. Measure each hole's center above or below the aiming point (up +, down −), add them up and divide by the number of shots.
Above the aiming point is positive, below is negative. Enter what your target shows.
